An Alien Lands is a series of cryptic challenges. It imagines that a visitor from another planet lands somewhere on earth, takes a look around, observes things and then reports what it sees.
The challenge for you is to work out from the report of each Landing whereabouts the alien has landed and identify the various landmarks, people and places of interest.
Some of the answers may come from your own general knowledge but you will most likely need to do some research to find them all. Some of the observations find the well-known landmarks and buildings. Others find the quirky and obscure. It is an entertaining way to find out about new places of interest.
These challenges are looking for locations within one of the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom and reference is often made to ‘this country’ which you should take to mean the single country: England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Where reference is made to features elsewhere in one of the other countries the word ‘kingdom’ is used.
Whenever a distance is suggested it is an estimate of a straight line (‘as the crow flies’) distance – not by road or other means of transport
